Education: getting started

Corvus Education connects campus structure, academic planning, student records, admissions, classroom work, assessment, and official results. Start with the campus and the people who will use it. Each workflow also needs its own role and prepared academic records.

This guide covers the Odoo 20 Community source reviewed on 29 October 2026. The recorded compatibility qualification covers all 13 production addons installing and updating together, 10 focused test methods, two HTML report content renders, and 13 packaged addons. It is limited qualification: the earlier Phase 3 acceptance gates remain unfinished. These guides do not establish complete product acceptance, Odoo 19 migration, Enterprise support, PDF output, or complete browser journeys.

The table describes the supplied modules; it is not an acceptance checklist. The administrator should install the selected modules with their declared dependencies. Core also uses Odoo's Base, Mail, Rating, and Resource modules; Academics adds Employees, Students adds Contacts, and Portal adds Odoo Portal. The reviewed manifests do not declare demo datasets, so plan to prepare your own authorized practice records.

Roles and access

Education User, Officer, and Administrator provide the foundation roles. The Administrator configures the structure; ordinary users and officers work within assigned campuses and enabled companies. Academic, admission, student, classroom, and assessment permissions are additional roles.

For example, an Admission Officer can operate applications, while an Admission Manager governs intakes. Admission decision, override, document-review, and conversion authorities are separate. A Classroom Manager can publish schemes of work, but recording teaching evidence still requires the appropriate teaching assignment or approved substitute authority.

Ask the person who administers Odoo users to configure both the required workflow roles and the user's Allowed Campuses and Default Campus. The default must be one of the allowed campuses. An Education role alone does not confer permission to administer Odoo users.

Prepare your first campus

Use an account with Education Administrator and the ordinary Odoo permissions needed to maintain the relevant contacts. If your organization already has this structure, verify the existing records instead of creating duplicates.

  1. Open Education → Configuration → Education Groups. Create the group with its name, unique code, and applicable Legal Companies. Save it. The group is the shared parent for its institutions and campuses.
  2. Open Education → Configuration → Institutions. Enter the institution name, code, type, and Education Group. Set Legal Company when the institution is represented by that company. Save it. A selected legal company must belong to the group's configured companies.
  3. Open Education → Operations → Campuses. Enter the campus name and code, the same Education Group and its Institution, Company, Campus Type, Campus Contact, and Timezone. Review the address and operating details, then save. The company must agree with the institution's legal company when one is set and with the group's configured companies.
  4. When the campus is ready to operate, choose Open. Confirm its status is Open. This records the campus status; it does not create academic years, classes, students, or enrollments.
  5. Have an authorized Odoo user administrator who also has the Education Administrator role open each user's Education tab, set Allowed Campuses, and choose a Default Campus from that list. Confirm the user has the intended workflow role and the appropriate company enabled.
  6. Sign in with a representative working account. Open Education → Operations → Campuses and check that the expected campus is visible. If it is missing, have the administrator check company selection, campus assignments, and role permissions before continuing.

Expected result: one consistent group–institution–campus structure, with staff able to reach the campus records relevant to their jobs.

Prepare the academic records for your workflow

An Academic Officer or Academic Manager prepares the academic configuration. Education → Academic Configuration contains Academic Years, Academic Terms, Curricula, Programs, Grades, Subjects, and Bell Schedules. Education → Academics contains Class Sections, Teaching Sessions, Timetables, Class Subjects, Course Offerings, and Education Staff.

An academic year must include its campuses and at least one term before it can be opened. Classroom work additionally depends on the published academic records and effective student placements described in the classroom guide. Admissions needs an open intake and a matching application-number policy described in the admissions guide.

Continue with the relevant practical workflow:

If the expected menu or record is missing

Check that the addon is installed, the working user has its role, the correct company is enabled, and the campus is assigned. A visible menu is only a starting point: individual records and actions also apply their own permissions and workflow checks. Use the specific validation message to correct the underlying record or request a review by the responsible administrator.
